What is The Tall Ships Races?

The Tall Ships Races is an annual event for sail training, in which was implemented for the first time in 1956.

The event is being administrated by Sail Training International (STI) who are based in Gosport, England. STI is registered as an ideal organization with members from all over the world.

One of the main goals of STI is to contribute to education and development of youth between 15-25 years, of all nationalities, cultures, religions, genders and social backgrounds, through sail training.

Who can apply for the scholarships?

The scholarships is for youth between 18-25 years, and one of the main requirements is that the scholarship receivers speak both Norwegian and English.

When can I apply, and when is the deadline?

It is possible to apply from April 6th and until one week before your voyage.

Is any previous sailing experience needed in order to sign up?

You do not need any previous sailing experience in order to participate in The Tall Ships Races in general. You will get all the necessary training onboard the ship from experienced crew.

Is there an age limit for signing up?

You have to be between 15-25 years old to participate in The Tall Ships Races, and between 18-25 years old to be a candidate for a scholarship in Vitamin Sea Sail.

How many scholarships are available?

There will be four scholarships available for the summer of 2023.

If I do not receive a scholarship, but still would like to participate, where can I find more information about The Tall Ships Races and how to sign up for it?

The main organizer of The Tall Ships Races has made a great website that will show you step by step on how to sign up. The concept is called Sail On Board, and you can find more information about it here!

Do I need to have a residence in Norway in order to be allowed to participate?

No, you do not need to have a residence in Norway in order to join the Tall Ships Races or to apply for the scholarship.
